There are a few different things that have changed my opinions on guns over the past few years. Ideally, I would love to stop firearm-related deaths, but you’ll see below why my support for gun control has evaporated. I began questioning the gun control crowd when I noticed discrepancies in how they framed their arguments. There’s always talk about banning “weapons of war”, but they only ever refer to black colored semiautomatic rifles.
Never handguns, shotguns, or powerful full-sized rifles. I clearly recall a school shooting using a pump-action shotgun and a .38 revolver, and how the media “forgot” the incident pretty quickly. I also found out that the definition of a mass shooting gets altered to fit a narrative, with gang shootouts, small events, and exchanges between police & criminals lumped together with school shootings and terrorist events. That is not honest data collection – as an engineer, I know this far better than most. Her work can take her into some rougher places, but even in a “safe” environment, she is vulnerable. She has zero martial training and is completely at the mercy of the average-sized man. She, I, and her family, have all agreed that she needs a form of real protection, whether stored in her car or in a house. Supporting gun restrictions would make it easier for her to be hurt or killed.
